One thing I have noticed is how people think technical writing and technical content writing are the same and the writer in me could not overlook this, so here I am 😀. Technical Writing and Technical Content Writing are similar but not the same and should not be used interchangeably.

Technical Writing vs Technical Content Writing

What does a Technical Writer do?
A technical writer is someone who breaks down and simplifies technical information for product users to understand. An example of simplified technical information is the user manual that accompanies a Bluetooth speaker or phone. Yes, that is what a technical writer does; write documentation to help product users understand the functionalities and features of the product they bought. This also applies to software applications; therefore, technical writers create documentation for both hardware and software.

Who then is a Technical Content Writer?
To better understand who a technical content writer is, we need to first address the definition of a content writer. A content writer is someone who creates content on diverse topics for several platforms such as blogs, websites, social media, and newsletters, among others.

A technical content writer is therefore the person who writes content for the aforementioned platforms; however, the topics are technical unlike that of a content writer, which is not. The main difference here is that a technical content writer focuses solely on technical topics, while a content writer does not.

An example of technical writing is the iPhone guide here https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/welcome/ios and technical content writing will be this blogpost on using an iPhone camera https://blog.hootsuite.com/iphone-photography/

What else do you think differentiates a technical content writer from a technical writer?
