What is your plan for the new year?

What are your new year goals?

What do you want to achieve this new year?

These were questions people kept asking me all through the new year celebration. And guess what my answer was until yesterday when someone else asked.

My answer was, “I don’t have any plan. Please, stop asking me that.”

Are you surprised that such an answer came from me? 😀

However, another friend asked me the same question yesterday, and my answer changed. At that point, I could calmly say some of the things I want to do in 2021. And the thing is, new plans will come along the way for me.

NO RUSH! NO RIGIDITY! NO COMPETITION!

Yes, it is good to start a new year with a list of goals to achieve but whoever said it is wrong or very bad of you to not have that list at the very start of the year?

Nobody is rushing you, okay? Most importantly, do what works for you. There is no rigidity in this. If you want to continue with the 2020 goals you haven’t yet achieved, kindly do so.

The thing is…..social media will always be social media. You will see people come out to say they achieved all the goals they set for 2020 and now are moving on to new goals for 2021. However, it sometimes happens…that we don’t get to achieve all the goals we set for a year.

CARRYOVER IS ALLOWED HERE!

I feel sad when I see people drop their uncompleted goals to create and pursue new ones all in the name of NEW YEAR, NEW GOALS. And this is usually a never-ending process. The question is, until when can you achieve set goals within a year? Please, stop going all over the place.

If it takes you more than a year to achieve some goals, it is fine. The important thing is, you get to achieve them at a point and then set new ones.

Let’s do away with that mentality of ‘I must set new goals because it is a new year’. Setting new goals for a new year or proceeding with the goals you have been working on are both okay. Do what rocks your boat. Do not let society pressure you into what isn’t fit for you.

The bottom line is: have goals you are working on!!!

P.S. Stop asking people what their goals or plans are if your relationship with the person doesn’t allow it. Stop asking random persons what their new year goals are. Goals are meant to be personal and shared only with people they choose to share them with. All these questions usually result in pressure. Unless you want to be the accountability partner, don’t ask!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU. HAPPY 2021!
